"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
-- Titus 3:5-7

We know salvation comes by mercy, not works—yet how easily we forget. We grip invisible conditions: if I become better, if I pray harder, if I serve more faithfully, then maybe God's grace will be mine. Paul plants his stake with Titus: 'Not by works of righteousness.'
What then? 'The washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.' Being born anew. This language echoes resurrection—death and life, the old self fading, the new self beginning. Resurrection is not only what happened to Jesus. Through the Spirit, it continues in believers, right now.
The result? We become 'heirs according to the hope of eternal life.' What we leave behind in this world is not our true treasure; what we are to receive is. Resurrection faith empowers us to surrender present loss. Because we have hope eternal.
Today I examine: by what performance do I not stand before God? One who stands by mercy alone lives mercy every day.
🙏 Today's Prayer
Lord, help me remember again that I am saved by Your mercy, not my own deeds. Let the renewing of Your Holy Spirit continue in me today. Strengthen my grip on my identity as an heir of eternal life. In Jesus Christ's name, I pray. Amen.
