"And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
— Hebrews 10:24-25

When Sunday approaches, hesitation creeps in. The body feels weary, unfinished tasks weigh on the mind, the honest desire to be alone and rest. Yet this passage speaks to us gently but clearly: do not forsake the gathering.
The writer of Hebrews lived in no easy time. There were those persecuted for their faith, and a weariness spread through the community—the temptation to lay down their beliefs altogether. In such hardship, the call to gather was no mere religious duty. It was a living practice of holding one another up.
When we gather together, we see what we could never see alone. Sitting before the same Word, singing the same hymn, recognizing in one another the weight of a shared life—in those moments, another's song holds us when we stumble; another's prayer lifts us when we falter. At the moment when solitude would have brought surrender, the community keeps us moving forward.
It is significant that love and good works appear alongside this exhortation. The gathering does not end in mere presence in the same space. It is love that sees each other truly, mutual encouragement toward goodness. This is the church. And as the day draws near, we are called to do so all the more—for the wisdom of faith teaches that in the final hour, communion and love are our greatest need.
Approach this day of worship with a prepared heart. There, grace awaits to lift you. Though you may feel you are the one sustaining the community, in truth the community sustains you.
🙏 Today's Prayer
Lord who loves the gathering of your people, guide our footsteps toward worship today. When weariness comes first and our hearts grow heavy, let us not forget the preciousness of gathering together. Grant us to sit before your Word, to hold one another up through our songs and prayers, to strengthen each other through love and good works. In those moments when we falter alone, grant us to find strength in community, and as the end draws near, deepen our understanding of the sacred worth of gathering as one. Amen.
