"And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."
— Acts 1:9-11

The disciples had spent forty glorious days with the risen Jesus. Those moments together—eating, drinking, and learning about God's kingdom—were priceless. Yet Jesus had given them a command: wait for the Father's promise. Now, as they watched Him ascend, their hearts must have been torn in two. They wanted to follow Him into the clouds, yet they understood they had to remain, trusting in His plan.
Jesus ascended is no longer confined to one place. From the right hand of the Father in glory, He intercedes for us and rules all heaven and earth. This reality didn't terrify the disciples; instead, it filled them with purpose. They stayed in Jerusalem, waiting for the Holy Spirit, confident that the Ascension was not an ending but a new beginning.
We face the same struggle today. We crave visible miracles and encounters. Yet like Christ's disciples, we must trust in God's invisible work. Jesus intercedes for us now, fully aware of our weaknesses and needs. He has promised to return—in like manner as ye have seen him go. Until then, we live in the tension of hope and patience.
🙏 Today's Prayer
We worship You, O Jesus, lifted to heaven's throne. We thank You for Your invisible intercession, though we cannot see. Your love overwhelms us—You have not abandoned us despite our weakness and foolishness. Grant us today to trust in the risen, ascended Christ, and fill us with the promised Holy Spirit. Let us wait in hope for Your return, Lord. Amen.
