Quand on vous confie la prière pastorale pour la première fois, vous pouvez vous demander : « Dois-je prier au moins 5 minutes ? » Pas du tout.
Le Notre Père enseigné par Jésus se lit en 30 secondes. Si le modèle de prière dure 30 secondes, une prière pastorale de 1 à 2 minutes est amplement suffisante.
La clé d'une courte prière pastorale tient en trois choses : une action de grâce, une demande et un verset biblique. Avec ces trois éléments, c'est suffisant.
Une prière courte et sincère est bien plus remplie de grâce qu'une longue prière qui répète les mêmes choses ou utilise des expressions compliquées. La prière ne se mesure pas à sa longueur.

Une courte prière pastorale est-elle acceptable ?
Oui. Jésus lui-même a dit dans Matthieu 6 :7 de ne pas « multiplier de vaines paroles ». La valeur de la prière réside dans la sincérité, pas dans la longueur. Une prière concise couvrant l'action de grâces, la repentance et la supplication peut être une prière pastorale parfaitement remplie de grâce.
Quelle devrait être la durée d'une prière pastorale ?
2 à 3 minutes sont typiques pour le culte dominical. Les courtes prières pastorales d'environ 1 minute conviennent aussi. Ce qui compte n'est pas le temps mais si le contenu unit les cœurs de l'assemblée dans la prière.
