Apostle Paul reminds the Corinthians of his first visit among them, emphasizing that he did not proclaim God's testimony through eloquent speech or human wisdom. This confession is deeply significant. Corinth was the center of Greek philosophy, a place where rhetorical skill was highly valued. Yet Paul deliberately abandoned the world's methods and testified only to Jesus and His crucifixion.
The cross was the most shameful and contemptible form of death in that era. Making it the center of his message would have seemed foolish to the world's eyes. But Paul was convinced this was the true evidence of God's power. He openly confesses that he came in weakness, fear, and trembling. This confession brings us deep comfort—even a great apostle experienced human weakness.
In Paul's weakness, God's power was displayed all the more greatly. Our weaknesses too can become precious channels through which God's power is revealed. Only the demonstration of the Spirit and power possesses true persuasiveness. While human wisdom and rhetorical techniques are temporary, the work of the Spirit produces eternal transformation.
What do we rely upon today in witnessing our faith? Are we depending on the world's approval and eloquent speech? Like Paul, let us simply testify to Jesus and His cross, and pray that in our weakness, the Spirit's power will be manifest. When our faith is firmly established not on human wisdom but on God's power, we can experience the true joy of genuine faith.

Almighty God, I often face the temptation to rely on the world's wisdom and eloquent words. I desire my words and actions to be impressive, to make a good impression on people. Yet through Paul's confession, I learn that what truly matters is the Spirit's power, and that Your power is revealed most greatly in my weakness. Help me to testify to Jesus through genuine faith rather than eloquent words. Simplify my heart and make it pure, so that through me others may experience not human wisdom but God's power. Holy Spirit, work mightily within me and use me as a fully devoted instrument of the Lord. Amen.
