"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."
— Matthew 20:25-28

When the disciples argued about who was greatest, Jesus gathered them and taught a profound truth. In the world, greatness comes from power and dominance over others, but in God's kingdom, true greatness is found in serving others. This truth was shocking then—and it remains shocking to us today.
Jesus didn't merely teach this principle; He embodied it. Despite being the Son of God, He washed His disciples' feet and ultimately gave His life as a ransom for many on the cross. His alignment of word and deed reveals what authentic leadership truly means.
We often face the temptation to climb over others to achieve success and recognition. We pursue higher positions, greater power, and increased respect. But Jesus' words directly challenge the world's logic: true success is measured not by how much authority you wield, but by how many people you serve.
As we go through this day, let us consider how we might serve those around us. Small acts of kindness, genuine interest, and devoted help—these are the deeds that make us truly great. When we follow the path of service that Jesus demonstrated, we experience genuine success and fulfillment.
🙏 Today's Prayer
Dear God, this morning I hear the words of Jesus. My heart is often tempted by the desire to be elevated and to be greater than others. Yet Jesus taught me that true greatness is found in serving others. Transform my heart, I pray. Make me more sensitive to the needs of others, and grant me the humility to serve from a lower place with joy. Help me to love like Jesus, to serve like Jesus, and to sacrifice like Jesus. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
