"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."
-- Philippians 3:20-21

The Resurrection is not merely a spiritual event. Paul tells us that our "lowly body" will be transformed to be like Christ's "glorious body." The physical weakness, aging, and disease we experience today are not our final destiny. The promise of resurrection includes our bodies. Therefore, this hope is deeply physical and profoundly concrete.
Philippi was a Roman colony. Its inhabitants knew what Roman citizenship meant in their very bodies—it was privilege, identity, and protection. Paul uses this metaphor. We have an even higher citizenship, he says. Just as they waited for the Roman emperor, we await Jesus Christ coming from heaven.
Waiting is not passive. It is living on this earth with our citizenship in heaven. Because we know our bodies will be transformed, we can endure today's sufferings. Because we know where we truly belong, we are not easily swept away by the world's currents. The faith in resurrection determines how we live on this earth.
🙏 Today's Prayer
Lord, help me remember that my citizenship is in heaven. As I await the day when this lowly body will be transformed like Your glorious body, grant me hope for tomorrow. Let me not lose my identity as a citizen of heaven, even as I live in this world. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
