📜 Today's Meditation

Psalm 51 is David's prayer of repentance following his sin with Bathsheba and the death of Uriah. As we stand on the threshold of Holy Week, in the fifth week of Lent, David's revelation at the end of this psalm speaks directly to our hearts. God does not desire burnt offerings or perfect rituals. He seeks a broken spirit—a contrite heart.

A "broken spirit" is not self-hatred or despair. It is the freedom to stop justifying ourselves, the willingness to acknowledge before God the true weight of our sins. Israel tried to satisfy God through external sacrifices, yet what God desired was not form but genuine transformation of heart.

We too often substitute religious practice for true encounter with God. We fill our prayer time, we give our offerings, we attend worship—but our hearts remain hardened. External religious acts without a broken spirit do not satisfy God's desire.

As we approach Holy Week, come before the Lord with nothing but your broken heart. He will never despise it.

🙏 Today's Prayer

Our Father in Heaven, I come before You today with a broken heart. I confess that I have hidden my hardened heart behind outward piety. I have lived through formal worship without true repentance. In this final week of Lent, break through the hard shell around my heart. Like David, let me hide nothing before You—let me bow before You in genuine contrition and repentance. I hold fast to Your promise that You will never despise a broken and contrite heart. Help me to prepare for Holy Week with sincere devotion. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
