The love that Jesus demonstrated for us by laying down His life is not merely a sentiment. It is a love revealed through concrete action, a profound commitment that requires the surrender of everything. John asks us: having understood this love, how should we treat one another?
We often speak the word "love" easily. Yet if those words are not backed by genuine action, they are merely hollow sounds. If we remain silent in the face of our brother's need and refuse to share what we have, while speaking of love, we cannot claim to have God's love dwelling within us.
The risen Christ has given us a new life—a life devoted to serving others, sharing their burdens, and expressing love through concrete deeds. The possessions, time, and attention we have are not ours alone. They are gifts entrusted to us by God to be shared with those around us.
Today, there are people in our midst who need our help. Let us consider what we might do for them. Not merely in words, but through actions that demonstrate that love.

O Loving God, we give thanks for the great love of Jesus, who laid down His life for us. Grant that we may deeply comprehend the meaning of that love and understand how it must transform our lives. Enable us not to love in word alone, but through our actions and in truth, to serve those around us. Give us hearts that share what we have and care for those in need. Let the love of Jesus live and move within us, and make us instruments through which that love might change this world. Amen.
