As the bright summer sun shines down, Jesus calls us 'the light of the world.' This is not merely a metaphor. Just as light is powerful in darkness, we become agents of transformation when we follow Jesus in a dark world. A city on a hill cannot hide, and when we shine our light, it cannot be concealed. This means our faith must be bold and clear, not timid or hidden.

Through the parable of the lamp, Jesus teaches us a crucial lesson. Not hiding a lighted lamp under a basket means our faith must be visible in our lives. No matter how deep and genuine our belief, it can have no impact if it doesn't manifest in our actions. Our good works become the light that proves our faith to God.

This word calls us to accountability. We shine unconsciously on the world around us. How we speak, act, and treat others is observed and has influence. Therefore, we must not diminish our light, but let it shine brighter. We must not turn away from injustice, refuse to help the weak, or remain silent about truth.

Yet this is impossible through our effort alone. We can be light only because Jesus' light dwells within us. We are not creating light ourselves, but reflecting the light we receive from Jesus—like mirrors. So our good works ultimately glorify not ourselves, but our Father in heaven.
